Ladder Thoughts

Something happened this past week where I became quite upset with someone.  I don’t want to throw anyone under the bus so I’m not going to share the details with you, but I was bothered so much by it, I actually  found myself awake in the middle of the night mulling it over.

Thank heavens I had a session scheduled with my coach the next morning (YES, I have a coach too and I get coaching every single week!), and she helped me to gain a better perspective and see what I couldn’t see.

So today I want to share with you the EXACT process you can use to  change the way you are feeling.

So many of us believe that getting over things takes a lot of time, but that’s simply not true.  You can clean up anything that’s been bothering you in 30 days or less.

Yes, anything.

The way it works is we take your painful thought, and we upgrade it just a bit to where you start feeling a little relief.  And then just like a ladder, we move that thought, step by step to a place that allows you peace, acceptance and love.

For example, say someone you trust lies to you. You are in a ton of pain and feel betrayed.  Your thought is likely:

“I can’t believe he did this, he shouldn’t ever lie to me, he should trust me more.”

We upgrade that thought by thinking,

“I don’t understand why he did this.”

Your feeling of betrayal and anger changes to a softer disappointment.

Just a slight shift.  Then we upgrade the thought again.

“I wonder why he felt the need to lie?”

I start to feel curious… better than disappointment.

“I have lied before.”

I feel a sense of understanding.

“When I have lied before it was because I was afraid of how it would make someone else feel.”

I feel a sense of compassion.

“I don’t know why I’m expecting him to be so perfect, perhaps I’m making a bigger deal out of this than is necessary.”

I feel more acceptance

“This is a human that I really love.”

I feel some peace.

“It really doesn’t matter that he’s not perfect, what really matters is how I feel about him and I want to feel love.”

I feel hope.

“It’s my choice and ability to offer unconditional love, regardless of our human flaws.  I choose love.”

I feel love.

Try this today and every day for the next week or so and observe how you can do this to create INCREDIBLE results in your own life!
